Clothing Haul

F21

I’ve discovered how flattering bubblegum pink is on all skin tones!

This fabric gives the illusion of pleats.

Mint is such a fun color this spring! Definitely going to cut off the ribbon, because I’m not going for the church look. I haven’t decided whether I’m going to shorten it yet. I’d pair this lovely lace with Jeffrey Campbell Spiked Litas and a leather jacket.

I’ve been obsessed with lavender lately. This delicate color matches perfectly with the sweetheart neckline and baby doll silhouette.

Roughen up some pale pink vintage Levi’s

I like how cutout strap design adds some edge. Everyone needs a nice silk tank to throw over skinny jeans for those “effortlessly chic” lazy days!

Met Gala 2012

The Met Gala is the most fashionable, luxurious event of the year. My biggest dream would probably be attending it. May I emphasize DREAM. I mean, it’s a giant costume party! The ensembles this year were much softer and feminine, although black armor and sequins are always present. I tend to favor the softer looks since this is a spring event. Here are my favorite looks of the night:

Gwyneth Paltrow in Prada. The bare back and high-low skirt allows her to show a lot of skin, while still looking classy.

China Chow in Jean Paul Gaultier. The web-like design on the neckline adds a little edge to a sweet white gown.

My two favorite colors this spring! I love the bright colors contrasted with sheer and lace. Caroline Sieber in Christopher Kane. Karlie Kloss in Jason Wu.

Diane Kruger in Prada. Although Diane is dragging along a massive amount of feathers, the dress still looks light, elegant, and effortless.

Angela Lindvall in Prada. The symmetry of the silhouette as well as the pops of color makes this look so interesting and chic. She even balances the embellished button up shirt with decorated pants.

Color Block Party

This is more of a subtle day-to-night take on this spring’s hot color block trend.

Add an extra pop to this trend by combining different textures. The warm velvet skirt with the light linen matches this spring weather perfectly.

I’ve over-worn these platforms, but it’s not my fault they match everything! Plus the metallic copper heel with my metallic silver skirt, I just couldn’t resist. Kill two birds with one stone by including metallics and color blocking in one outfit!

Cobblestone Coins

Classic New York to wear all black as the weather warms, but there’s a way to pull off this look and still stay cool!

Stick to light, flowing fabrics and statement pieces to eliminate layering. To wear sheers and stay modest, pull on a pair of high-waisted grandma pants and a fun floppy hat.

Pastel Powder Puff

Spring is here! Well kind of, I can’t really tell with this London weather in New York…

Everyone must have that one cliché spring outfit every year: relaxed, colorful, and happy! With longer days and warmer nights, the brightened moods are unavoidable. Whether it’s bright colors, florals, or just a smile :)

The low back on this Tucker tank adds some elegance to a fun print, and an extra dash of cuteness!

You’ll mostly find me in jeans and pants this time of year than in any other season. I dread pulling on jeans in the winter to receive a shock of cold from the denim. While in the summer it turns into a game of how to sweat the least amount possible.

A geometric, art-deco inspired piece like this can pull together a casual or relaxed outfit.

I found this necklace at the Brooklyn Flea, literally tangled in an old pile of costume jewelry. In my eagerness to purchase it, as my close friend and fellow shopaholic bargained down the price to $9, I forgot to ask what it’s made of. My product knowledge professor would be so disappointed in me!

Quilted Armor

With a very structured outfit, you can obtain an easy, chic, modern look. The nude palette with some necessary black creates an elegant outfit, for a more dressy day or night occasion, or just a day you’re feeling fancy.

I love this top because it’s actually my go-to on lazy days. Wear it with black skinny jeans and killer chunky heels and you’re ready to walk the streets of Manhattan! The soft quilted pattern contrasts, yet works so well, with the armor-like shape.

These pale pink shorts are just lovely, for the structural aspect and its traditional day to night color. The change of length in the back allows you to wear a modest short short. The shorts balance the crew neck, keeping the outfit fun and young!

Bohemian Teal

I am a summer soul. You can see my longing for blue water seas and smooth pink sand. Sipping a virgin piña colada poolside as the sunsets… I can’t help but incorporate some LA style with a dash of Caribbean dreams into my wardrobe even when the weather disagrees.

The structured shoulder of my t-shirt keeps the look urban.

Vintage Velvet Wallflower

This is the velvet sweater from my thrifting post; told you it wasn’t your grandma’s average sweater! This night outfit is warm and simple. Pull on some tights and lace spandex shorts and you’re ready to go! I love velvet and the subtle floral pattern is just the fudge on my sundae, the free shipping on my favorite online store.

I have a tendency to not leave the house before wrapping my limbs in chains and studs. The long necklace balances the crew neck, and a few statement rings add some edge to a simple sweater dress.

So Seventies

I wish I could go back to the years of big hair, bell bottoms, and platforms. But since fashion is a cycle, I can somewhat relive the past. Except for the discos my dad keeps reminiscing about, that’s dead.

Many women are hesitant to resurrect wide legged jeans because they’re so used to skin-tight skinnies. But high waisted flare jeans can have just the same slimming effect or better! They accentuate the tiniest part of your torso, that is your waist. They suck in your thighs and lift your butt like magic. The flare starts right under the knee, hiding a muscular calf. Hemming your jeans right above the ground, including your heels, elongates your legs. Long lean legs—every women’s dream!

This playful teal isn’t too crazy to attract strange looks, but they will definitely turn heads. I promise you will stand out in a pair of these!

You can pair these babies with a neutral top, or if you’re in a more daring mood, try a printed top. Fashion is fun, you should never take it too seriously!

Thrifting

So I went to Goodwill for the first time the other day because I recently found out there’s one near my apartment. Now I’m in love! Everything is so cheap! I usually go thrifting at the more “trendy” second hand stores like Beacon’s Closet, Housing Works, Buffalo Exchange, and Crossroads Trading Co. Their merchandise is more selective, so it’s easier to shop, but it’s a little pricey for used clothes. The Goodwill near me had a lot of larger sizes, and unfortunately, I’m smaller than the average human being. I would go back for tops and outerwear, because I can go over-sized for that.

This gorgeous jacket was actually a petite small. I love the clean silhouette; the shoulder pads and cropped style creates a slimming effect.

I was iffy about this lovely velvet floral shirt at first, but now I’m obsessed. My best friend’s exact words were, “looks like something my grandma has,” which actually made me kinda happy! I wish I could raid my grandma’s closet.

Anyway, this shirt is a dress on me, and the two slits on the side make it a little risqué. Paired with shredded tights and killer chunky heeled boots, it definitely would not be your grandma’s average shirt! The perfect night outfit, especially for this transitional weather.

This looks like a weird nurse’s outfit with the white vest inside. The vest confuses me because I can’t imagine it adding style to any decade.

But I adore these buttons!

OFF WITH THE VEST!! I just love the color of this jacket for spring, paired with nude pointed toe heels—to die for! It’s lightweight and just flows when you walk. Fully equipped with shoulder pads, this piece will definitely liven up an outfit.

And don’t you just love this pleating detail! Everyone should go support their local Goodwill.
